Install tgsetup vs. easy_install

Reported by: guest Owned by: anonymous

Description

On Ubuntu 7.10, after first running:

wget http://www.turbogears.org/download/tgsetup.py
sudo python tgsetup.py

This installed TG 1.0.3.2 (Stable)

Then, I followed the instructions to get a specific (beta) version found at:  http://docs.turbogears.org/1.0/Install

easy_install "TurboGears==1.0.4b2"

I wound up with two copies of (at least) tg-admin in my system.

  1. /usr/local/bin/tg-admin
  2. /usr/bin/tg-admin

The one in "local/bin" was the stable version. The one in "bin" was the (correct) beta version.

This may or not be a bug, bit at very least, it should be documented.

Can someone confirm what is going on here?

tgsetup.py sets the script_dir option for easy_install to /usr/local/bin.

If you create a .pydistutils.cfg in your homedirectory you can set it as default for plain easy_installs too. For example:

{{ [easy_install] script_dir=/usr/local/bin }}

Sorry, the code in the last comment wasn't formatted properly. Here it goes again:

[easy_install]
script_dir=/usr/local/bin
