r5441 applies a new CSS to the quickstart template...

It is not polished yet but I'd like some comment to know if I revert or continue in this direction.

Principally, I'd say this is a good idea. But I'd choose a different design. Please also be careful to use only tabs or spaces (currently both are mixed), better avoid too much indentation, and add proper <!-- start --> and <!-- end --> comments in the template. Also make sure flash() messages and login status are displayed properly.

It's a rough cut... I'm polishing right now. What other design would you choose ? For the moment I handle flash classes in the current css...

r5447 fixes tabs/spaces issues and also fixes the code class display.

obviously the small links 'printer friendly, comments, read more' should be removed...

If new css. I would convert our html to fit this page  http://www.csszengarden.com/zengarden-sample.html (change the wording but leave css specific tags)

and create css that looks like original tg but with few modifications.  http://www.csszengarden.com/

Almost all the designs from CSS Zen Garden are fixed width designs. This is what bugged me about the TG 1.0 default design all the time. People have wide screen monitors nowadays.

and that's why I choose one which is flowing (not from css zen garden)

I will happily take over this one. As to fixed vs fluid, I think personally think this is a use case where fixed width is better. We want it to look good, and act predicatble. Fluid with layouts on my wide screen look ridiculous and are hard to read, the eye is not used to reading double width pages.

If done right it will be trivial to change though. ;-)

what is the status on this one? From the discussion on the list it seems ready.

No, we're waiting on a few more tweaks from Iain Duncan to the new design he checked in a few days ago.

Not working in IE 6 is a real issue for many people. Do we really want to ship with CSS that is broken for 1 in 5 users? I approve of the desire, but can't imagine that we can really ignore 20% of the web.
