  1. For a fresh Ubuntu, you need install gcc first:
$ sudo apt-get install gcc
  1. To install Turbogears on Ubuntu, the libc6-dev and python2.4-dev packages need to be installed.

These packages provide header files etc.

$ sudo apt-get install libc6-dev python2.4-dev
  1. Run from the Turbogears download page.
$ sudo python
  1. easy_install Turbogears
$ sudo easy_install -f --script-dir /usr/local/bin TurboGears

Do NOT install python2.X-cherrypy, python2.X-sqlobject or any other packages that are used by turbogears. Remove all these Packages (via apt-get remove ...) and then install the versions in the turbogears thirdparty-directory.

Question about the Tip: What if I have other applications that depend upon these Ubuntu Packages?

You should look into something like the rootless install for turbogears, this generally puts TG and everything it needs into a seperate site-packages under a user directory -- Sean Jamieson
